Mioplanet Administration Panel

General

Product Information

From here, you can view the XML configuration file currently online and in use by your application.
To check if this file is correct, open it with Internet Explorer from a desktop supposed to run the application. This file must be accessible and should not show any error.
You may need to publish the file a first time before you can view it.

Download

You can download the latest version of your application from here.
This feature may not be available for all your applications.

Update

When the version number set in the Latest Version Number field is higher than the version number of the application, the web page specified by the URL is displayed so the user can download the new version.

When a new version of your application is ready, you should proceed as follow:

{o} Create a web page on your server to provide a download link to the new version of your application.
{o} Update the version in the field Last Version
{o} Specify the URL to your web page in the field URL.
{o} Publish your changes.

The next time the application will download the XML configuration file, the web page will be opened so the user can download and install the new version.

Search Engine

If your application provides a search box, the URL can be specified here.
In the URL, the string [KEYWORDS] is replaced by the keyword(s) to search for.

Example

If URL for the search engine is specified as follow:
http://www.mioplanet.com?search=[keywords]

When the user enter a keyword in the search field, the URL will be as follow:
http://www.mioplanet.com?search=keyword

Ticker

This tab is enabled if your application contains a scrolling ticker, such as a Desktop News Ticker.

Header

The header is the first string to be visible at the beginning of the text to scroll.
Full HTML is supported.

Format

HTML template for a news item.
The following strings are replaced by the value of the current news item:
{title} News Title. The text is a link if an URL is provided for this item.
{description} News description.
{pubDate} Date of publication.

Separator

The separator is used between each news item to visually separate them.

Direction

The direction Right to Left is the standard direction for English and other European languages.
The direction Left to Right is to be used for some languages such as Arabic languages.

Example:

Header: <I>Latest News:</I>
Format: <B>{title}</B>: {description} ({pubDate})
Separator: |

Result:

Latest News: First: First news (12/12/2006 14:20) | Second: Second news (12/12/2006 14:20) (11/12/2006 14:20)

Alerts

Alerts are XML feeds used to send information on the user's desktop via a Desktop Alert application or other.

Two kind of XML feeds can be used for the alerts:

{o} Alerts Feed: Based on two XML files, this kind of feed is highly optimized to use a minimum of bandwidth.

{o} Standard RSS feed: Standard RSS feeds. RSS feeds are not optimized to be used as alerts but is can be useful to re-use an existing RSS feed.
It is also possible to optimize an RSS feed to save bandwidth. Just create an additional file with the tag containing a version number. Increment this version number each time your RSS feed change.

Refresh Interval

The refresh interval set the delay the application must wait before checking for news items.
A low value (less than 5 minutes) consume a lot of bandwidth. Check if your network can provide the bandwidth required.
If the interval is set to 5, the application will wait 5 minutes before checking for news item. So your news items are displayed to the user in 5 minutes or less (some of them will see the alert immediately, other will see it after 5 minutes).

Source of Alerts

For each source of alert, an ID, a title and an URL must be provided.

{o} If your source is an Alert Feed, or a RSS feed with the version file, Select the option Optimized Alert Feed.
The Id is the name of the XML file and the URL is the path to the XML files of the source.

The name of the XML file is defined as follow:

ID.xml for the file containing the version.
ID_active.xml for the feed itself.
ID_history.xml containing the disabled alerts.

{o} If your source is a standard RSS feed, select the option Standard RSS Feed and provide an ID of your choice. In the URL field, specify the full URL to your XML file.

The option Force Reload make it possible to prevent the web browser component for using a cached copy of the XML file instead of downloading it.
Depending of your XML feed, you way select one of the tree options:

{o} Yes (?uid=N)
The string ?uid=N will be concatenated to the URL. N is replaced by an unique number, so the URL is unique and the cache is never used.

{o} Yes (&uid=N)
The string ?uid=N will be concatenated to the URL. N is replaced by an unique number, so the URL is unique and the cache is never used.
Use this string instead of the first one if your URL already contains arguments. When the & is used, the unique number is considered as an additional argument and the URL should work correctly.

{o} No (Preserve URL)
Is some cases, the URL cannot contain any additional information.
Choose this option if your application cannot download the RSS feed.
When this option is used, the application may not view the latest version of the XML file and content delivery cannot be guaranteed in time.

Channels

Channels are standards RSS feeds used to provide information to an application.
A standard RSS feed is adapter for a scrolling ticker, or an RSS reader. For the alerts, a dedicated XML feed offer more features and is optimized to make a limited use of bandwidth.

Refresh Interval

The refresh interval is the delay the application must wait before downloading the XML file.
A low value (less than 5 minutes) consume a lot of bandwidth and some client-side CPU. Check if your network can provide the bandwidth required.
If the interval is set to 5, the application will wait 5 minutes before downloading the file again.

Channels

You can add, remove or update information about the channels used by your application.

You can specify a valid URL to any RSS feed, or specify the URL to an RSS feed edited from the admin panel (04. The tab Channels).

The status, if available for your application, make it possible to specify how the feed should be available for the end user:

Selected: The user can enable or disable this channel. By default, the channel is enabled.
Not Selected: The user can enable or disable this channel. By default, the channel is disabled.
Mandatory: This channel is always enabled. The user cannot disable it.

The categories and sub-categories, when available, organizes the channels when the list of channel is displayed to the user.

Options

You can enable and disable the options available for the user from the drop down menu.
The drop down menu can generally be opened with a right click on the status icon, or from the Options button, if available.

Check the options you want to be available for the user, and uncheck the ones you want to hide.

Links

If available for your application, you can set a list of links.
The links will be visible from the options menu, or from a dedicated menu.

If your application supports ads, set the settings and the list of ads from here.

Publish

When you have completed your changes, you must publish them to update the XML files.
